Penjaga Insaf - Sama Sadja (Power & Steel: PAS27)
For several years Ingo Sauerbrey made extensive travels through Indonesia, always carrying recording equipment to collect sounds as an audio diary. During periodic return trips to Germany, he started to work on the recordings with electronic devices. Some sounds were edited, cut and transformed, while others were kept completely intact. To name a few sound sources only recordings from Water Puppet and Shadow Theatres, Gamelan and various welcoming and fighting dances like Kecak, Jegog and the Tarian Caci were used for this album. Some of those impressive performances were made of 60 to 90 men chanting and dancing while a bamboo orchestra used 4 meter long bamboo sticks playing bass drums on it. Sada SAdja is weaving together the sounds of living traditions, religions and languages with spherical ambient pads and electronically edited drones from the field recordings. This is an contemplative and intimate soundtrack from the deepest heart of South East Asia. LOKI/PaS. $12.67

Peter Bjärgö. - Animus Retinentia CD (Cyclic Law: 90thCycle)
3rd full length album by ARCANA / SOPHIA mastermind Peter Bjärgö. On his solo works we hear the perfect blend of his previous incarnations where dreamy piano parts, rhythmic percussions and his now trade mark guitar, all blended into perfection. Solemn vocals filled with lyrics of distress and mournfulness lull us into the nether. Filled with nostalgia and longing of a lost world, "Animus Retinentia" forms a threshold into another world where glimpses of light always shine through. A splendid follow up to his previous solo works and dare we say, his best yet.Edition of 500 copies in 6 panel Digipack. $13.5

Phaenon - Submerged (Malignant: TumorCD30)
With the debut release from Phaenon, it is immediately evident a heavyweight has arrived. The brainchild of Polish born, but current Maryland resident, Szymon Tankiewicz, Submerged is a dark ambient tour de force. Visually and sonically enveloping, this is an album of space and texture, slowly revealing a psychoactive soundscape of majestic, arcing timbres, circadian buzzes, and expansive drones. Heavy, and cosmically weighty in the beginning, Submerged evolves into something more minimalist and serene, radiating a celestial beauty, yet becoming even more bleak and suffocating as it progresses over it's 66 minute time frame. Experienced from start to finished, theres a palpable sense of drifting and drowning, of being carried away into an endless, interstellar vacuum. An exciting new project, and a must for dark ambient purists. Check out Phaenon's myspace page for excerpts of new works at www.myspace.com/szymontankiewicz. In stylish 6 panel digipak, artwork by K. Enderlein (LOKI), mastered by Thomas Garrison... $6.0

Phelios - Astral Unity (Malignant: TumorCD44)
Following two CDs on Eternal Soul and a recent split LP on LOKI, Germany’s revered dark ambient project Phelios makes their first appearance for Malignant. With its swirling cosmic drones and sweeping, cinematic drift, the music of Phelios is breathtaking and hypnotic, often evoking moments of serenity and beauty, yet spiking them with deep cushions of ritualistic percussion and textural squalls that suggest something much more ominous and threatening looms on the vast horizon. Collectively, Astral Unity is thoughtful and concise – a vivid and richly detailed entity that’s alive and constantly evolving, channeling the universe while simultaneously exploring the inner regions of a more primordial earth. In 6 panel digipak, with gold foil stamping.. $6.0

Phelios - Gates of Atlantis (Malignant: TumorCD70)
The first new recording from Phelios since 2010’s highly acclaimed Astral Unity, finds Martin Stürtzer in fine form, creating yet another masterwork of meticulously crafted, richly detailed cosmic doom. Very few acts, if any, are more adept at composing such epically scaled atmospheres and Gates of Atlantis once again sets the bar impossibly high, offering up a multi-colored tapestry of sweeping sounds, full of majestic, nebulous drones and ominous strings, propelled forth by rising waves of tribal percussion and more earthen, textural darkness. The scope and breadth of the 7 tracks here truly transcends dark ambience, and the sheer weight and complexity of sound is nothing short of awe inspiring. A triumphant return from one of the genre’s great practitioners. In 6 panel eco-wallet with artwork by Pär Boström (Kammarheit) and mastered by Secret Lab.. $5.0

Philipp Münch - Greyscale CD (Ant-Zen: Act375)
While listening to 'Greyscale' a dramatic change concerning the lyrics is instantly obvious: they are now primarily in German, pointing at Philipp Münch's personal musical roots in the legendary project Ars Moriendi including famous co-members such as Andrea Börner (Morgenstern), Andreas Schramm (Asche) and Tim Kniep (Synapscape). Ars Moriendi's unique mixture of power noise rhythms, dark ambient spheres and often aggressively performed German vocals lay the foundation for the updated conceptual turn on 'Greyscale' as well as the fortified use of acoustic instrumentation besides omnipresent electronics. A project that also leaves one's mark here is Philipp's alter ego Rasputeen which combines minimal electro with headstrong and often time-critical lyrics. Assimilating these influences and giving them a contemporary update, 'Greyscale' displays the topical manifestation of Philipp Münch as an artist and as a musician - both as he is now and as he was, simultaneously.. $9.0

Phragments - Earth Shall Not Cover Their Blood (Malignant: TumorCD37)
Youve seen it before. Certain bands or artists delivering their finest work with their first recording. Then, in futile attempts to capture some of the same magic, becoming formulaic and stale, rehashing ideas and never really achieving the same caliber of work. Others, expanding on the elements of their prior releases, and through a natural maturation process, get stronger with each release. That would certainly be the case with Phragments. With their third full length studio CD, this Slovakian duo have made remarkable strides not only in quality but in scope. Equipped with an enriched sonic palate, Earth Shall Not Cover Their Blood mixes forceful brass and dark orchestral strings with rolls of powerful tribal percussion, somber wind instrumentation, ominous atmospheres, industrial clangor, and a strong and commanding vocal presence, particularly on tracks like Over Deadlands and The Kin of Cain. Cohesive, complete, and epic, this is a release that will open some eyes to new found authority of Phragments. Yours to discover. In 6 panel digipak.. $5.0

Phragments - New Kings and New Queens (Malignant: TumorCD58)
The first new release from Phragments since 2008’s Earth Shall Not Cover Their Blood should be looked upon as a special, stand alone release, devoted not to the more daunting neo-classical atmospheres that make up the majority of Phragments' discography, but to something much darker and abstract; one long track, broken up into 6 chapters of slowly evolving landscapes of black and grey drones, sparsely interrupted by orchestral swells of golden light. And while this is indeed a more minimalistic approach to recording for Matej, in typical fashion, it is also very detailed and painstakingly composed, flowing seamlessly from one point to another over its 32 minute time frame. In terms of genre, this is pure orchestral dark ambient – bleak and solemn, yet with a certain calmness and emotionality, becoming almost sacral and poignant as it unfolds. Lmtd 500 copies in oversized fold out packaging.. $5.0

Phurpa - ya tog rid pa’i gyer 2CD (Zoharum: Zohar145-2)
This double album is the successor to the previous release entitled “Chöd” from nearly a year ago. The new release shows how Phurpa constantly transforms itself through their own musical exploration as well as personal spiritual development. Apart from intensive concerts, its members are famous for their long meditation trainings/sessions. This constant movement, the exploration of various techniques and discovering new inspirations in eastern culture makes Phurpa musicians more and more eager to use traditional instruments in addition to their distinctive “rgyud-skad” singing, thus enriching the already familiar formula. By emphasizing the sacred and spiritual nature of their activity, they seek to enrich it in such a way that the listener can find the novum, bearing in mind that not only the aesthetic but very spiritual world of the ancient deities of the Bön tradition is particularly important. The title, referring to the magical quest for the universe, should set the direction for the interpretation, or be merely a pretext or an invitation to this mystical journey. The album consists of two discs with over 90 minutes of music. It is released in a 3-panel ecopak in a strictly limited edition of 500 copies.. $6.0

Pjusk - Tele (Glacial Movements: GM0013)
Pjusk is Rune Sagevik and Jostein Dahl Gjelsvik from the west coast of Norway – both from small villages close to nature. The sound of Pjusk is inspired by the harsh Norwegian weather and wild landscape. At the center point of the collaboration between the two is an old cabin high up in the mountains. This is where most of the music of Pjusk is made – framed by snowy peaks and the sound of cold streams. The album "Tele" (the Norwegian word describing frozen underground water) is a natural progression from the album "Sval" released on the US label 12k in 2010. Inspired by the arctic wilderness, Tele is a journey of snow, ice and cold. All tracks composed and produced by Pjusk except:. $7.0

Pterygium - Concealing the Past CD (Tesco: Tesco127)
Pterygium is another discovery that was brought to a bigger audience via “Projekt Neue Ordnung II” 4LP Box. Like “DEATHPANEL” the Australian outfit did surprise with his outstanding atmospheric droned textured power electronics. Concealing The Past, Pterygium’s first CD and second full length album compiles a assemblage of studio recordings throughout 2017 and 2018. From jarring analogue live sessions to melancholic, nonchalant atmospheres, each piece disconnects from the next, self containing singularity ideas that present as individual representations of every day chaos and detachment. Continuing on from his debut album “Grip”, Concealing the Past explores greater textural depths, seeking a more elaborate, expansive sound palate. This culminates in adroit switches between cold and bleak to manic and uncompromising. Underlying drones mold layers together leaving melodies to punctuate the structural development of each work. Freestyle, improvised power electronic workouts serve to separate the somber uncertainties. Simply put, Concealing The Past is 9 episodes of modern Sturm und Drang detailing rationalized toil authenticated by modern social tendencies.. $14.67

Pylar - Orýgenes CD (Gradual Hate: GH140)
Pylar is made up of several hyerophants, shamans, and druids. It is thought that there are members of the mighty Orthodox and the magnificent Blooming Látigo among them. Ritual music and ceremonial invocations with the objective of awakening tellurian forces which have been lying dormant since the Ancient Times. In their own words: "We worship the Godess of the beginning of time, we are purity and corruption, permanent and eternal becoming, and existence which is Kronos and Aevum one at the same time... We are the vehicle of the transformation of the great metal... Those who have been absent for a long time show themselves through us... We are the Aludel... We are the inner working of the Earth... We are the womb where electrum is incubated.". $12.0
