Abandoned Asylum - Derelicts of Distant Hope (Malignant: TumorCD63)
The debut album from Poland’s Abandoned Asylum and a welcome new entry into the Malignant family, fitting nicely alongside roster mates Rasalhague, Collapsar, and Phelios, in its ability to explore not only the outer edges of the cosmos, but deep into catacombs and dimly lit underground passages. Derelicts of Distant Hope is a collection of 7 tracks in total where shape shifting tonal swells are met with a host of nebulous textures, distant mechanical whir and industrial debris, and drifting atmospheric desolation, all expertly constructed and layered into a sprawling and expansive whole. With dark ambient, it’s not so much about re-inventing the wheel (which isn’t so easy to do given the genre’s defining characteristics) as much as it is about setting the mood, and Abandoned Asylum accomplishes that with great precision and skill. In 6 panel digipak, lmtd 500 copies.. $5.0

Abjection Ritual - Futility Rites CD (Malignant: TumorCD89)
With 2 previously self-released CDrs, Erie, Pennsylvania’s Abjection Ritual grabbed our attention by creating a particularly bleak and virulent strain of death industrial that takes the unbridled, feral violence of American power electronics and combines it with the classic charnel house, necro-atmospherics of vintage Cold Meat Industry (BDN, MZ.412, In Slaughter Natives). Futility Rites is his proper debut, and it fully delivers on the promise and potential of earlier material. From the slow, caustic crawl of “Aversor”, “Entropic Embrace”, or “Tabernacle of Teeth and Tongues”, to the heavily mechanized grind, razor sharp frequencies and lurching physicality of the title track or “Objects of Wrath”, each of the 8 tracks here are impenetrably dark and filled with oppressive dread, culminating in a release that immediately propels Abjection Ritual to the front of the pack when it comes to malevolent, post-apocalyptic electronics. For fans of Steel Hook Prostheses, The Vomit Arsonist, Brighter Death Now, In Slaughter Natives.
In 6 panel digipak designed by Brian Van Der Pol and mastered by J. Stillings, Steel Hook Audio. Lmtd 500 copies. Run time: 49 minutes.. $6.0

Abjection Ritual - Soul of Ruin, Body of Filth CD (Malignant: TumorCD113)
With their second full length record for Malignant Records, Abjection Ritual emerge a far different beast, now fully untethered by genre constraints and conventions. Soul of Ruin, Body of Filth is a vast progression from past releases, incorporating guitars, bass and a live drummer into their arsenal, and in doing so have crafted a far more diverse, idiosyncratic vision, while retaining the atmospherics of heavy electronics and industrial ambience. Like a hybrid of Enemy of the Sun era Neurosis, early Swans, Godflesh, IRM and Khanate mixed with the caustic doom sludge of Halo and Indian, Soul of Ruin, Body of Filth is a crushingly visceral and eclectic journey that destroys preconceptions and leaves any true classifications in tatters. Featuring vocal contributions from Rennie Resmini (Starkweather) and Christopher Ropes. In 6 panel digipak with cover art by Jef Whitehead (Leviathan)
""... hideously dark and mechanical sludge-riffed death industrial..." Grizzly Butts
"the ugliest, darkest fringes of sludge infected by industrial power electronics and pure noise...a fearful album to lose yourself in" Ninehertz

Abjection Ritual - There Is A Wasteland and It Is Us CD (Malignant: TumorCD134)
First full length since 2018's Soul of Ruin, Body of Filth finds PA based Abjection Ritual returning to his more death industrial based roots, while still embracing the bludgeoning heaviness and crushing weight that populated that release. Shuddering frequencies, strewn debris, and bleak atmospherics deliver a definitive statement of nihilism and negativity.. $10.33

Aderlating - Gospel of the Burning Idols (Black Plagve: Infect12)
4th full length disc from this offshoot of Gnaw Their Tongues, finds Mories and Eric Eijspaart exploring further realms of the depraved and sinister; a 7 track descent into a world of wretched decay, nefarious manifestations, and atmospheric decrepitude, where charred frequencies meet slithering, roiling darkness, industrial clutter, demonic vocal incantations, and blurred, abstract layers of nightmarish horror, all periodically propelled forward by an invasion of live, free-form percussion and crashing cymbal resonance. Few artists can deliver a full spectrum of hellish ambience like Mories and Eric, and with Gospel of the Burning Idols, Aderlating comes forth with one of their most focused and complete recordings, capturing the sound closest to a live experience, with little sampling and using only “machines”, synths, vocals, and percussion.. $5.0

Aeldaborn - The Cosmic Trident (Lichterklang: LK021)
"The Cosmic Trident“ is the second album of AELDABORN, consequently following the path of their debut „Fountain Of Darkened Fires“. Now consisting of Thomas Lückewerth, Philomela, Sepp Funkel, S. Dante and Axel Burgard AELDABORN celebrates old ancient myths by the poignant use of martial influenced Dark Folk and Ritual music which leads the listener to Viking Kings („Hakonarmal“), the finnish Kalevala („Vainamoinen“), the mountain tops of the Hindu goddess Shiva („The Cosmic Trident“), the funeral rites of the tibetian Bön („Mound Of Bones“) or to the hidden doctrine of the Qlipoth („Satariel“). In addition to the diverse vocals of the band guest performances by Frater Eremor (“Im Kraftstrom des Satan-Set“) and Asenath Mason (Foundress of „Temple Of The Ascending Flame“) put even more emphasis on the mythical and spiritual direction of the album. The sound is characterized by guitars, violin and drums in combination with the passionate lyrics, changing between melancholy, heros and aggression. The album will be released with exclusive paintings of the finnish artist Veera Pitkänen in an elaborate digipak and bookle. $7.0

Aeldaborn - Urfinsternis CD (Lichterklang: LK045)
New album from new folk group Aeldaborn deals with the religious motives of the Swedish island Gotland and its ancient stones (“Reiter und Schlangen”)”, lesser known nordic myths (“The Ride of Hyrrokinn”) as well as songs standing in the tradition of luciferian gnosticism referring to Albin Grau, Gregor A. Gregorius and Aleister Crowley ("The Wind Beyond" and "The Law Of Silence"). The Kalevala as well as karelian witchcraft are covered as well just like the mythical topic of the mountain in the context of a spiritual observation (“Entwölktes Gebirge”). By all means the Bronze Age is the peak of religious images, the first light from the original darkness (“Urfinsternis”). Musicalwise “Urfinsternis” can be considered as the most accessible album Aeldaborns up to date while a new female voice adds a new dimension to the multilayered compositions.. $7.0

Aethere - In Coma (Rage in Eden: Rage61B)
Interesting 4th release from this Italian project, managing to fuse sweeping, deep space atmospheres, with some traditional early CMI sounding industrial (Morthound came to mind), with, as in track 3, an almost Klinik like electro sound (albeit heavier, with a power electronics intensity). And yet, it definitely works all around.. $8.0

Ain Sopha - Aurora (Old Europa Café: OECD053)
Re-release of the 1992 CD on Cthuhlu. An uneasy but brave selection of ‘cabaret songs’ that mixed in equal measure the words of the military display. Café society, and the canciones of the itinerant Italian street singer. Jangly, upbeat, downbeat, off key, melodic piano and guiat with Italiano vocals. A very controversial and politically incorrect album (if you speak Italian I suppose), talking about Italy during and after WW2! For those that wonder about Novy Svet’s influences, you need look no further than something like Aurora.. $6.0

Amon/Nimh - Sator (Eibon: AMN069)
The mystery of the ancient and puzzling magic Sator square is evoked through five dark tracks. Amon (Andrea Marutti) is and established Dark Ambient project and Nimh (Giuseppe Verticchio) is a well-known and eclectic alchemist of electronic-ethnic–acoustic-ambient sound mixtures. Together they have produced massive magmatic sounds mixed with the technologic and synthetic vibrations of oscillating sinewaves and with frosty isolationist timbres programmed through fluxes of information written in binary code… Echoes of breathless and confused human activities falling into decay, the dark and deep sound of earth’s abysses, scoriae of electric buzzes and synthetic microsounds, the warmth of subliminal melodies. Analfabetism - Av Hjord Är Du Kommen CD (Malignant: TumorCD90)
As it is with death metal, Swedish industrial is a unique strain with an often defining and noticeable sound, forged in part by the legacy of early Cold Meat Industry, and further fueled by cold winters, alcohol, and mundane factory work. Analfabetism captures that original spirit - a grizzled veteran, known around Malignant for his prior nomenclature, Knös, Frederik Djurfeldt creates back to basics, stripped down, bare bones old school industrial; relentless cold frequencies and sinister atmospheres fleshed out with samples, looping dirge, and pounding machine clangs, and neatly wrapping it in an embrace of distortion and mechanized gloom. It''s a tried and true formula that sadly few explore today, yet here we find Analfabetism taking the torch and leading the charge towards a future that suddenly looks bright, even if it sounds hopelessly bleak and apocalyptic.. $5.0

Analfabetism - Skammen CD (Malignant: TumorCD99)
Fredrik Djurfeldt returns to Malignant with his second CD as Analfabetism. Tracing its legacy to the glory days of CMI, with stylistic nods to Megaptera and Archon Satani, Analfabetism create a particularly atmospheric style of death industrial, where damaged circuitry, crackling transmissions, and fatiguing metal clangs reverberate above gloomy synth bed ambience and soundscapes littered with rusted steel and broken glass. These are the sounds that speak of urban desolation, decaying factories and disenfranchisement, forged and crafted by a skilled tactician. In 6 panel digipak, designed by NTF Design.. $5.0

Anarcocks - Hotel Oriente CD (Old Europa Café: OECD222)
Back in 2011 Massimo Villani and Marco Simonelli were connected by their common friend Lydia Lunch and met in Zürich with the intention of collaborating on a project. Over a sleepless weekend they conceived the tale of longing and desire that is "Hotel Oriente". Marco then wrote the lyrics and Massimo conjured up with Pierce Wyss to create the soundtrack, that was recorded in Zürich and previously only available as a digital download. This CD release is the second installation of the “europArabia” trilogy from Anarcocks that started in 2014 with "Desert Rose" and will see its achievement next year with a yet unnamed third and last chapter. Very cinematic acoustic, classic sounds mixed-up to complex electronics plus the Italian telling voice of Massimo. Anemone Tube - In the Vortex of Dionysian Reality CD (Blossoming Fern: Fern01)
Related to Nietzsche`s notion of the Wagnerian music drama as a revelation of the abysmal truth about man, “In the Vortex of Dionysian Reality” allures us into the Dionysian dreamland, where tragedy reigns, in pursuit of the ultimate oneness. With its washes of noise and layers of piercing feedback on a subbase of wavering synths, it is a maelstrom of sound generating a hallucinatory reality. The atmosphere oscillates between destructiveness and aggravating frenzy, between the archaic and the sacral, between frenzied passion and abyssal melancholy, serving the mythical experience of music in a world where language has failed as a method of communication and music figures as the primordial form of expression.
As he considers humanities to have reached their limit, young Nietzsche hopes to find ultimate spiritualization and idealization in the reborn myth. Music alone (“our German masters”), as the primeval form of poetry and revelation of true Dionysian wisdom, may achieve triumph over the Apollonian shallow world of apparition.
With his timely musical rendition of mythical experience as “In the Vortex of Dionysian Reality”, Anemone Tube conveys an emotionally and mentally charged album which reveals his soft spot for progressive post rock metal acts like Amusement Parks On Fire, Blut Aus Nord or O.L.D. Their special approach of dreamy melodies vs. atonal, discordant sounds is skillfully recreated through polyphonic synths lines, which are then modulated into feedback and added for good measure.
Carrying the same title as the 2015 cassette EP release on The Epicurean, this CD with its 40+ minutes total length and five all new, yet unreleased tracks is less a mere re-release, but rather a full stand-alone album, featuring Ukrainian dark ambient artist Monocube on one track, as well as including sounds by Russian avantgardists Post Scriptvm and sound processing by French sound artist Pacific 231.. $10.0

Anima Nostra - Atraments CD (Malignant: TumorCD107)

Initially the name of a collaborative CD between Henrik Nordvargr Björkk and Margaux Renaudin released on Cold Spring in 2016, the duo have now relabeled and solidified themselves under the Anima Nostra moniker, and in turn, broadly expanded their sonic palette, taking the more intimate ritual ambient aspects of the debut, and incorporating them as part of towering constructs that blur the line between death industrial, doom metal, and neo-classical. With it’s upward swells of foreboding brass, fearsome tribal percussion, and hammering, bass heavy dirge, “Atraments” is the unleashing of something truly monumental and cataclysmic, eclipsing nearly everything Nordvargr has ever been associated with in of scope and grandeur. Integral and prominent in the mix are heavily serrated and imperious vocals, employed to drag the listener inexorably into an inferno of apocalyptic proportions, while adding a more structured “song” element and trumpeting the arrival of an inevitable doom. “Atraments” stands firmly as a vision complete and the perfect soundtrack for times of great tumult.
Completed with artwork by Thomas Ekelund (Trepaneringsritualen) and Portugese occult calligrapher Gordoletters, in 6 panel, heavy stock digipak with spot varnish finish and 8 page booklet.

Antlers Mulm - Silbergrauer Staub CD (Wrotycz: WRT021)
The first album ins special art paper package! From FUNPROX: "Not a recent release (October 2003), but one which I listened to quite often recently. The productions of Antlers Mulm and its label Sonderübertragung, both run by Hans Johm, sound and look just a little different. The limited releases, both on vinyl and cd, are always packaged in cardboard boxes, which are functional, yet stylish. The music of Antlers Mulm contains many nostalgic references to older electronic music, without becoming a pure retro act. The music on “Silbergrauer Staub” does not sound very complicated at first. Nevertheless there is a lot of tension in the music and often an otherworldly and melancholic feeling. Pioneers like Kraftwerk come to mind, as well as underground minimal electro from the early 80’s, but there are also clear connections to dark ambient / industrial circles. I have to think of Coil, Column One or Predominance. Despite experimentation, the melodic soundscapes are quite accessible, even meditative at times. Most tracks have an atmospheric electronic sound with clear keyboard melodies, subtle samples and sparse speech vocals, often slightly distorted. Percussion does not play a dominant factor, though there is some ritual, almost martial percussion here and there, like on ‘Gipfelsturm’. In general the music is not particularly dark, there are no deep basses or cliche rumbling machineries. Some tracks sound a bit more threatening though, like ‘c3′. Most of the 15 tracks move forward rather slowly, though a track like ‘Out of line’ has a pumping electronic beat." SONDERÜBERTRAGUNG. $6.0

Apocryphos - Against Civilization CD (Cryo Chamber: Cryo140)
Finally, we see Robert C. Kozletsky return with a dreary and guitar driven follow up to 2016's Stone Speak. Against Civilization is where Robert takes a different sonic path. Vastly different from past releases, but still wrapped in the solemn sound Apocryphos is known for.
Civilization is a curse. Your head hangs heavy in the windowpane as you gaze upon the dregs of society. It soon collapses and nature turns feral. Those desperate to cling to their hollow idols fall silent, eyes sunken. They are not there. They have abandoned us. They are against civilization...
Features stark and captivating artwork by Erik Osvald and a 12 page booklet with extended artwork and text emphasizing the turmoil within the music. Close friend and fellow collaborator Pär Bostrom (Kammarheit, Cities Last Broadcast, Hymnambulae) makes an appearance on two tracks.
Recommended for long nights, rainy days and fans of cold and emotional soundscapes. $12.67

Apoptose - Ana Liil CD (Tesco: Tesco094)
Ana Liil doesn't want to be your friend – she lives in an entirely separate world. Maybe at night you see her shape behind a grimy window in the neighbourhood, or you hear her singing from afar. But you will never get closer to her. “I don't know who she is,” Apoptose says. “One day she just emerged. Like a thought that sounds logic in your dreams but completely strange in daylight.” Apoptose’s “ana liil” plays with your expectations. This album spins within close range of those dark ambient realms that Apoptose became known for since the early 2000s. Songs like “meer der ruhe” or “schnee” still bear this signature. But at the same time they show a new quality of songwriting. Both feature the frail singing of a girl who keeps the dusty shadows at bay . On “forget your face”, “adrenalin” or “ich verbrenne” Apoptose replaces the reverb charged tracks by songs full of voices and haunting melodies. But beware: all is not as it seems. The album will be available on CD, vinyl+CD and download. The CD is housed in a stylish spot varnished six-panel cardboard pack including a twelve-pages booklet and a separate CD-sleeve.. $13.0

Artefactum - Foxgloves & Bluebells (Old Europa Café: OECD143)
Being one of the very few representatives of what might be labelled as feminine ambient music, Artefactum remains the embodiment of unique characteristics: deep and warm ambient intertwined with sounds of nature, ritual bells, remote drumming and sensual vocals. In the case of Artefactum you simply can’t mistake the music for any other artist’s work. Merissa d’Erlette’s new opus "Foxgloves & Bluebells" has at last taken its final shape after five long years since the release of "Rosarium Hermeticum" – her last full-length album. The music is richer and more varied than anything else she has ever made – while still within the borders of ambient, the release contains at the same time a collection of beautiful songs inspired by old poetry and mysterious folklore. With wonderful guest appearances from neo-medieval The Soil Bleeds Black, British folk singer Andrew King (Duo Noir/Sol Invictus) and neo- classical Dawn & Dusk Entwined, "Foxgloves & Bluebells" is a must-have release for anyone into esoteric post-industrial music.. $5.0

Arum Lilies - Dismal Fantasies CD (Death Continues: DCRCD012)
Arum Lilies is Mark Groves's (Australian artist) power-electronics solo project, and "Dismal Fantasies" is his debut album under this moniker. Recorded in the heat of Melbourne’s summer. Clammy evenings spent manipulating a dusty Tascam 424 MKII while drinking cheap white wine and beer in front of a fan that may be audible in quieter passages. An attempt to progress an earlier line, Arum Lilies takes processes and themes established when working on the Von Einem recordings, and repositions them. Source matter has been drawn from a wider geographic range, and the tone more intimate. Minimal yet cold and disturbing pieces with oscillating frequencies, natural ambience, and whispered vocals not only gives this a creepy, B movie kind of feel, but a real voyeuristic vibe.. $6.0
