Fucking insanely good new material from Sektor that takes things to a new level, even by their standards. All full studio recordings and mastered by James Plotkin, “Engage... Forwards” is urgent and driving, with relentless percussion segueing into killer bass riffage and eventual scrap metal chaos. This captures the early frantic style of Dissecting Table, adds in some SPK and Test Dept. composition skills, and yet still delivers that uniquely Sektor 304 sound. "Voodo Machine" is dirgey and unyielding with plodding, rigid percussion and an ominous vibe. Absolutely brilliant artwork by Andre Coelho with the music to match. Lmtd 200 copies.

Sky Burial/Self - Split 10inch (Peripheral Records: PR011)

I've gotta give props to the UK's Peripheral Records for coming on strong, managing to amass a nice collection of releases in their short history, further solidified by this split 10" release featuring the well known Sky Burial, and Self, the more atmospheric project of John Balistreri of Slogun fame. Two strong tracks from both, with my personal preference being the Sky Burial piece - a blackened ambient track full of rust and serrated edges, corrosive textures, and an overall grim and bleak vibe. I read somewhere that Self is influenced by the early CMI works, but I actually find more in common with Propergol's mellower moments, at least in the primary use of sampled conversations playing over a bed of dreamy ambience and gently looping chimes and mechanical whir.. $6.0

SZNUR came into unlife at the beginning of 2017, built on the remains of harsh noise act TRAUMA UNIT which was active since 2010, coming from Lodz / center of Poland. Starting as a mix of power electronics and harsh noise sounds SZNUR made its proper life debut during Zasavje Noisefest International, bringing a short but powerful set, sharing the stage with acts like KE/HIL, Satori, Dave Phillips, Svartvit and others.
2018 and 2019 was a period of live performances which took place in Poland, Lithuania and Czech Republic. 2018 kicked off with a live performance supporting legendary Polish industrial band JUDE, also coming from SZNUR’s hometown – Lodz. Series of local performances followed, ending with SZNUR’s appearance at Wroclaw Industrial Festival 2018.
2019 started with local performances and followed with a small tour of Lithuania / Poland / Czech Republic with STRESS ORPHAN, who came for these events exclusively from NY / USA. During the 2019’s summer SZNUR also performed on HRADBY SAMOTY and BRUTAL ASSAULT FESTIVAL, pulverizing the audience of KAL stage, along Prurient, FINAL, JUDE, Teorema and others.Throughout the last years the live performance has evolved in various ways, finally taking the shape of a death industrial / power electronics monolith captured live in January 2020 in Soyuz Studio in the band’s hometown of Łódź.Afterwards it received mix and mastering treatment courtesy of Eric Trude (STRESS ORPHAN) in May 2020.
Decaying synths, amplified distorted electronics, haunting samples, ear piercing feedback and disturbing vocals – NEAR DEATH ELECTRONICS. This is SZNUR, a surprisingly fresh and not used up band. not trapped in too many clichees. a band that still has a process of development ahead of which we can look foward to.
