S.Q.E. - 5+4 (Silken Tofu: STX16)
SQE. is the moniker of J Greco, living and working in New York. Active in the electro-acoustic/experimental scene since the mid-1990s, he founded Smooth Quality Excrement together and collaborated with such artists as Ure Thrall, Paul Lacosta and Michael Hensley (Blood Box, Yen Pox), before concentrating on his solo material as SQE.
As SQE, J. Greco has collaborated with the likes of Amber Asylum, Tony Wakeford and Alan Trench & Tracy Jeffery (Orchis/Temple Music). This resulted in releases on Old Europa Cafe, Drone Records and Anticlock Records. With ‘5+4’, J Greco takes his work to a completely different level, perhaps more accessible sounding but still with its necessary hooks and experimental sounds.
Stylistically, it might surprise some (quite a few) people, with its contemporary electronic sounds and dub influences. Armed with effects, acoustic instruments and the lovely voice of Tracy Jeffery, SQE has made the soundtrack to some hazy, warm summer nights, combining this warmness with a slightly fuzzy mood and an at times cold 80s feel.. $6.0

Sabled Sun - 2146 CD (Cryo Chamber: Cryo003)
Re-press of the 2013 album, released on Cryo Chamber, but pressed through Tesco. The second album by Atrium Carceri side-project Sabled Sun and the follow up to the album ‘2145’ (Old Europa Café), 2146 continues the sci-fi story background of this project and takes us to the second year after our protagonist awakens from deep hibernation sleep to a world in ruins. Seeking signs of life he encounters the illuminated cities still powered by automated energy and its robotic inhabitants moving with pointless tasks void of meaning. Simon Heath takes us to a cold place of nuclear winters and lost hope in this genre bending release. This album has a High Dynamic mastering for audiophiles, meaning a lower output volume and a greater dynamic range.. $7.0

Sagittarius - The Kingdom Come (Cold Spring: CSR152)
Recorded between 2008 and 2011 and influenced by the intellectual world of the German poet Stefan George, "The Kingdom Come" contains 18 songs with a playing time of 65 minutes. With Sagittarius now grown to a full four piece line-up featuring new members Herr Twiggs (Kammer Sieben) on vocals and Theresia W. on oboe, and once again assisted by a number of highly gifted guest musicians, including sG (Secrets Of The Moon), Dev (While Angels Watch) and Josef K. (Von Thronstahl), Sagittarius has managed to conceive a unique and outstanding album in the tradition of the classic European Art Song, blending sophisticated neoclassical compositions with a touch of suicidal folk noir.. $6.0

Saáadon - мреть (наутро ночь) CD (Cyclic Law: 180thCycle)
In 2018, the longtime partnership between the St-Petersburg based duo Sádon (familiar to us from their collaboration with Treha Sektori) & France's Romain Barbot alias Saåad (who has curated & managed the BLWBCK label and released Sádon's early material) finally turned into a musical collaboration as Saáadon. Entitled мреть (наутро ночь) (which can be translated as « Die (in the morning night ») is centered around the melancholic and introspective poetry of Donat Mavleev, evoking a secular dream, the end of time, its horizon and beyond. The trio's music moves across drone & ambient soundscapes, giving birth to a disturbing strangeness with radiant hues, simultaneously intense and peaceful. A poignant emotional journey the likes only such a joining forces can conjure.. $14.33

Seirom - Mesmerized CD (Infinite Fog: KSZ006)
"When one submerges themselves in as much darkness as black metal/noise maven Mories tends to, it is only natural to need a break every now and then. The need to come up from the murky depths and bask in the sunlight now and again is only human, and despite the otherworldly sounds he produces, the man is only human. Seirom is this breath of fresh air, this ray of sunlight, for Gnaw Their Tongues mastermind Maurice De Jong.
Ofttimes overlooked in favor of his more shocking material like Aderlating or Gnaw Their Tongues, Morie's ambient synth project Seirom is just as satisfying a listen as any of his other material, and uses many of the same methods of attack, albeit to very different effect. Despite the fact that the project doesn''™t seem to garner quite as much critical attention, the intrinsic value of the music contained within is undeniable, and the back-uncatalog is surprisingly extensive with multiple releases dating back since 2011, many of which are available of the artist's bandcamp page for a pay-what-you-want download. The newest Seirom release, the seven song EP Mesmerized is a beautiful and fascinating work which is a perfect place for newcomers to Mories' lighter world to start immersing themselves". Sektor 304 - Communiphones (New Approach: NAR08)
Probably not what you'd immediately expect from Sektor 304, but by the same token, not all that surprising either given their periodic propensity to create extended passages of more atmospheric material; "Communiphones" consists of 35 minute piece built on synthesizers and field recordings, aiming for a monolithic and dronish paranoid ambience. Even if the approach is different, the sound is definitively and uniquely Sektor 304, with shifting layers of industrial clutter, mechanical whir, and gloomy, unsettled synthdrift. A necessary companion to all Sektor works and a nice counterpoint to the heavier, more rhythmic based material.. $12.66

Sektor 304 - Soul Cleansing (Malignant: TumorCD43)
Equipped with a frightening and impressive array of primitive instrumentation pulled from junkyards and scrap metal heaps, this Portuguese outfit has delivered an astounding formal debut – a heady mixture of truly old school industrial in the vein of Einsturzende Neubauten, Test Dept , and S.P.K , and the grinding, bass heavy dirge of vintage Swans and Godflesh . These are anthems to the past, but geared towards an apocalyptic and bleak future… a form of counter-culture using what is most evident in modern western society: the debris, the abandoned objects, the waste, the noise, and the interference.
With a solid foundation of rusty, oil drenched percussion, Sektor 304 adds layer upon layer of squalling industrial clangor, hammering metallic noise, grimy atmospheres, heaving masses of haunted factory drones, and threatening tribal batter, with a strong and commanding vocal presence. The sound here is almost physical in nature – provocative, persistent, and demanding. No one is doing what Sektor 304 is doing right now. Anyone into TRUE industrial (and that includes not just the aformentioned old guard, but also things like Strom.ec , Militia, Negru Voda , and Knifeladder ) really should not miss out.In 6 panel digipak, mastered by Steel Hook Audio.. $5.0

Sektor 304 - Subliminal Actions (Malignant: TumorCD53)
The follow-up to the highly acclaimed Soul Cleansing CD finds Portugals Sektor 304 expanding on all aspects of their debut, once again channeling the essence of the old school guardians (Test Dept, SPK, Crash Worship), while simultaneously exploring new, uncharted territory.
Comparatively speaking, Subliminal Actions is a more complete and focused album, with an even better flow than Soul Cleansing and more attention paid to detail, unleashing a cacophonic whirlwind of buzz saw grind, loops, power tools, and scraping, junk metal debris, clashing head on with exertive tribal percussion, clanging oil barrel rhythms, and industrial clamor resonating over a sprawling, post- apocalyptic wasteland. Some tracks, such as the opener, “A Carving on Metallic Flesh”, heap on the scorching noise, while others, such as the resounding, rhythmic driven “By The Throat”, “A Vessel of Guilt”, or “Vultures” are delivered with factory-line precision, laced with grimy layers of bass-heavy dirge, bleak, reverbed squall, and distortion filled, atmospheric drone. Among the many highlights, is the albums closer, “A Prismatic Sun”, a 10 + minute epic excursion into a nightmarish world, populated by whispered vocals and uneasy drift that slowly rises and grows in intensity, climaxing into a blissfully dark and sweaty orgy of low slung bass, ominous, ceremonial drumming, and suffocating darkness.
Subliminal Action not only compliments Soul Cleansing, but takes the Sektor 304 sound to new heights, delivering yet striking record sure to solidify their standing as one of premier, truly industrial acts in operation today.
10 tracks, totaling 63 minutes, in 6 panel digipak, mastered by James Plotkin.. $5.0

Shedir - Finite Infinity CD (Cyclic Law: 152ndCycle)
2nd full length from Italy’s Shedir. Picking up where her last album “Falling Time” (Cyclic Law) left us, we are again treated to thick expanses of floating drones and intricate use of field recordings, exposing very skilful sound design techniques. Every object, every place, every being contains a kind of inherent solitude that is the pure essence of what it means to be. When the essence of something, its fierce and unseen loneliness emerges, we’re faced with the subtle kernel of being, lonely like the totality of stars. And the effect of being here, on Planet Earth, accepting silence, inscribes something on the cold, shiny walls of our souls, a finite flicker through infinity. Mastering by Lawrence English. Artwork by Nihil.

Shock Frontier - Tumult CD (Malignant: TumorCD110)
With his dark ambient project Apócrýphos, Robert Kozletsky has shown a proven ability at creating multi-layered and highly detailed soundscapes. Working as a duo alongside Kyle Carney, he takes that skill and applies it to his death industrial alter-ego, Shock Frontier, carving out a sound residing somewhere between the “new wave” of American power electronics (The Vomit Arsonist, Steel Hook Prostheses) and the classic sound of Cold Meat Industry (Deutsch Nepal, Megaptera). “Tumult” is a world enveloped in a perpetual haze of post-apocalyptic soot and radioactive ash, where deadening percussion, reverberating factory drones, samples, and atmospheric washes of hostile electronics churn and whirr into a polluted, endless expanse. The follow up to 2013’s debut Mancuerda Confessions, Tumult is a more intricate, more oppressive, and more finely honed release, and a logical extension of the Shock Frontier sound.
Featuring contributions from Gnawed, Kristoffer Oustad, and Noculture, in 6 panel DVD digipak skillfully designed by Chris Angelucci of NTF Design & Print.. $5.0

Sigillum S - Klimax Axis CD (Old Europa Café: OECD308)
In order to celebrate the very first SIGILLUM S appearance at the OLD EUROPA CAFE "CONGRESSO" in Pordenone on May 14, 2022, OEC is re-issuing this historical production on CD for the first time.
The work appeared originally in 1988 on cassette (between the first 2 SIGILLUM S vinyl LPs), thanks to MISTY CIRCLES, and was re-released as a limited, vinyl-only edition in 1999 by OEC.After having been available only through DL and streaming for many years, KLIMAX AXIS has now been re-mastered specifically for the disc medium by ERALDO BERNOCCHI and has been visually enhanced through a blackened repackaging by PETULIA MATTIOLI.
Here SIGILLUM S started shifting their early drones and layers into concentrated outbursts of maniac consistency, reaching out for initiatory spasms of disjointed rhythms and super saturated vocals:this CD (even if only in a few copies) gives the chance to cruise again through these peculiar sides of the SIGILLUM S ever-changing evolution, while caressing a very special, fetish-like artifact… ignore at your own risk!. $14.33

Sigma Octantis - Dissipations (Malignant: Treatment04)
Final release from this enigmatic French act, who over their 10 plus year existence, evolved into something very cerebral and innovative, fusing tribal rhythms and percussion with post-industrial and post-rock soundscapes, where cinematic textures and emotive melodies combine to create an eclectic, yet highly detailed and focused listening experience. Sigma Octantis has never been shy about their admiration of Morthound, and while that rings true with Dissipations, they have undoubtedly forged their own identity, the strength of their sound coming from an ability to take a template established 20 years ago, and expound upon it with a distinctive and broad palette of layers and complexities, where the overall arrangement of the tracks is structured and song oriented, but made surreal, unpredictable, and infinitely engrossing. A unique vision has come to pass, but will continue to live on with a strong end statement. For fans of Morthound, Deutsch Nepal, and the latter works of Caul. A Malignant Antibody release, co-released with French label OPN Records, limited to 500 copies in eco-wallet. Mastered by Frederic Arbour (Cyclic Law).. $4.0

Skin Area - Rothko Field (Malignant: TumorCD52)
3rd full length release from this acclaimed Martin Bladh (IRM) project(in conjunction with Magnus Lindh), following 2002's New Skin CD and 2006's double CD Journal Noir/Lithium Path, both on Cold Meat Industry.
Like previous works, Rothko Field is a highly charged and visceral auditory experience...mind bending and turbulent sonic explorations that are grainy and tense, where uneasy frequencies intersect with caustic drones, infected, insectile buzz, swelling drifts, and intense, slow motion percussion driven sludgery. Further comparison reveals Rothko Field to be less schizophrenic, less challenging, and more structured than in the past, coming off as both spacious and yet suffocatingly claustrophobic (and ultimately closer in style to IRM), suggestive of a spiral downwards into mental decay and degradation, and further enhanced by Martin's uniquely distressed and provocative vocalizations.
9 tracks total, broken into two "mirrored parts", with track 5, "Void"acting as the actual mirror itself. In digipak, with full color 24page booklet. Not to detract from previous releases, but this is easily the best Skin Area work to date, and a must for all things Martin Bladh!. $5.0

Collaborative effort between Frédéric Arbour of famed dark ambient label Cyclic Law and his solo project Visions, and Montreal based ambient/experimental project, Skinwell. Musically, it brings us 4 tracks of massively scaled power drones, barren ambience, and black hole atmospherics, each piece starting in a more minimal fashion, then slowing escalating into a hypnotic spectrum of melting drift, ascending and descending tones, and undercurrents of distant industrial churn. Slogun - Less Traveled CD (Old Europa Café: OECD297)
Old Europa Cafe is proud to announce the release “Less Traveled” by American “True Crime Electronics” icon Slogun, compiling three notable titles from his notorious discography.
The full-length CD brings together two titles born out of his 2001 appearance in Mombris, Germany, “I Travel” and “How It Ends”, as well as a rare EP celebrating his April 2016 appearance at the OEC Venue CONGRESSO POST INDUSTRIALE in Bologna, Italy, “All But One”.
“I Travel” was originally released in limited quantity by Slogun’s own Circle of Shit label for his show with Dagda Mor in Mombris, Germany on September 8th, 2001, just days prior to the terrorist attacks on his native New York City.Comprising five tracks, they are a perfect example of Slogun’s style at the turn of the new century, utilizing his early harsh analog layering along with scorching walls of noise prominent in mid-2000’s titles.
“How It Ends” originally appeared as a limited edition picture 10” on the White Rabbit label in 2002, born out of his Mombris show, though NOT a live recording as many have mistakenly stated in the past.More in line with his later works, the six tracks give you that unrelenting walls of noise attack that was Slogun’s style during the “touring years” between 2003 and 2007.
Finally, capping off the release are the two long tracks from the rare acetate 12” “All But One”, which was released at the Slogun appearance in Bologna, Italy in April of 2016 for Old Europa Cafe along with other heavy hitters Sutcliffe Jugend and The Rita, featuring a more structured sound evident in the final albums of Slogun’s run between 2010 and 2018.
Of course all these tracks rely most on Slogun’s distinct lyrical style: raw, ugly, non-conforming. Lifting the veil on the notion of “humanity” and the human animal.
“Less Traveled” celebrates a life off the beaten path, lived regardless of the price that had to be paid. The realization that what was taught was false. What was explained all a lie. What was directed just empty promises. The myth of "best interest" blown wide open as self-realization snuffed out all the empty promises. F.T.W.

Sophia - Take Those Silly Heads Off Their Necks 10inch Records (Raubbau: RAUB092)
Sophia in a nutshell: started in 1998 as a more experimental-minded side-project of arcana, the peter bjärgo-led outfit then released seminal martial industrial albums in the early 2000s via cold meat industry and cyclic law. the 2016 comeback album “unclean” appeared more versatile than ever, with a wide range of sonic expressions from ambient calm to upfront aggression.
'Take Those Silly Heads off Their Necks' proclaims a stance of fundamental disapproval of the ways of civilization, and how could that be more appropriate then in the light of current events? the detached male and female vocal delivery hovers above creepy layers of ambient doom, deeply unsettling noises float in from unexpected angles, an isolated synth line leads the pack into the oblivious nothingness.

Steel Hook Prostheses - Atrocitizer (Malignant: TumorCD34)
As long time admirers of this Texas two piece, it seemed only a matter of time before Steel Hook Prostheses would find a home with Malignant. While Atrocitizer will probably not be considered their most aggressive release, it is unquestionably their most unsettling and creepy. 10 tracks in total and close to 50 minutes of death industrial in it’s purest form, dripping and oozing with sinister intentions, and full of grim electronics, unnerving pulsations, and cold frequency spasms that swarm from a fetid pit of malevolence. Add in a steady stream of ultra menacing , processed vocals and nightmarish samples, and surely you have one of the more disturbing releases ever to be released on Malignant. Steel Hook Prostheses formed in 1999, and since then have amassed an impressive discography of limited CDR releases. Atrocitizer is just their second full length non CDR release following 2005's Light Reflected From A Cold Cutting Table. In 6 panel digipak. $5.0

Steel Hook Prostheses - Calm Morbidity CD (Malignant: TumorCD96)
15 years in and with 9 full length releases under their belt, it’s safe to say that the terminally morbid, Dallas based duo that is Steel Hook Prostheses are the undisputed flag bearers for American death industrial. Perhaps they have been for a long time, but if there was any doubt, it’s quickly erased within the first minutes of Calm Morbidity, their first full length since 2013’s The Empirics Guild. Once again, we find them channeling all things grim and grotesque, and while they don’t stray too far from the charnel house atmospherics you’ve come to expect, there’s a dynamic and dark energy that exists with Calm Morbidity that never fully existed before. From the heavily polluted and blackened drones, decrepit, percolating frequency beds, and acid dripping, highly processed vocals, everything about this release feels intensified and elevated. An immersive and riveting display of the macabre and unequivocally a high watermark in an already illustrious discography. In 6 panel DVD Digipak designed by M.C. De Jong of Gnaw Their Tongues.. $5.0

Straight Panic - The Satanic Verses CD (Phage Tapes: PT238)
Militantly queer power electronics from New Orleans with his proper CD release, following an extensive discography of primarily tapes. 7 tracks full of samples, ragged frequencies, and vocals that are prominent, but mostly indecipherable and vaguely comparable to Slogun if he were shouting through a field of distortion. Potent material with a forceful presence and message.. $8.67

Stress Orphan - Mass Casualty Event CD (Fusty Cunt: FUC159)
First full length pro CD from this Baltimore based project bursts forth with a fiery animosity and vitriol on behalf of the people of the US controlled island, Saipan, long subject to cheap labor exploitation and a dominating military presence. Clocking in at 46 minutes, the 4 tracks here are forceful and cataclysmic, built on heavy synths, commanding vocals, and expertly executed frequency blasts and pulsations. Leans towards the minimalist side of things, but it's that focused simplicity and direct approach that makes it so effective. For fans of Nyodene D, Strom.EC, and Anenzephalia.. $7.0

STROMSTAD - New Devoted Human CD (Malignant: TumorCD114)
Few names imply mind-bending, forward thinking heavy electronics like Finnish stalwarts STROM.ec, and with every release, they seem to further stretch the boundaries of what can be a pretty rigid genre, and navigate realms never before seen or heard. Similar things can be said of Norwegian atmospheric heavy weight and Malignant staple, Kristoffer Oustad, whose particular strain of dark ambient and post-industrial soundscapes are incredibly dynamic, at times surreal and cinematic, other times more driving and heavy, but all with a recognizable, highly emotive touch. Put the two together, and you get the debut of their collaborative project, STROMSTAD. Spread out over 8 tracks, this is a dizzying exploration of sound and vocal fury, where mechanized pulsations, writhing frequency oscillations, and grinding machine loops meet stretches of drifting darkness and touches of musicality, suggestive of a future that’s dystopic and bleak on one hand, yet highly innovative and revolutionary on the other.
Featuring a guest appearance by Grutle Kjellson from the mighty Enslaved, mastering by Nordvargr, paintings by Jeff Klena and design by Alonso Urbanos.

Sutcliffe Jugend & Junko - Sans Palatine Uvula CD (4iB Records: 4iB13)
Sans Palatine Uvula showcases the amalgamation of 2 pioneering artists of their respective genres: Power Electronics and Japanoise, both whom have made their presence significantly felt (through sight and sound) ever since the early 1980s in England and Japan. Sutcliffe Jugend and Junko (from 非常階段/HIJOKAIDAN) are renowned artists in their own right, having been uniquely defined in the experimental noise scene as innovators of sound through their personal style of artistic expression that involves the churning of audio mayhem through guitars, electronics and vocals.
This album sees Sutcliffe Jugend taking a step beyond as they push the envelope of sound progression to greater heights. Junko‘s piercing screams and squeals serve as a canvas for Sutcliffe Jugend to work on and develop it further in their own innovative style. The results demonstrate a very unique reconstruction of the shriek queen’s original vocal outbursts, which see them being reworked and reinvented separately through manipulative treatments of cut-ups, distortions, samplings and introduction of other sonic elements.
This collaborative work between these two unique and respected artists of different genres from East and West encloses the listener with sonic chaos through its ten varied tracks. For some, it may seem like a difficult album to digest at the first listen. However, the tensions that have been separately produced from the harsh elements of voice and sound eventually subside as they resonate with each other, bringing forth a balanced unity of yin and yang.
Best Played Loud!. $12.67
