Inspired by early modern poetry, Hermeticism, fin-de-siècle symbolism and naturphilosophie, this new opus celebrates another vision of the world, one of higher dimensions and beyond the human sphere, a world of intoxicated and ecstatic alchemy of poetic language and ideas. An upward movement and a breakthrough from the bonds of materia to the source of life and eternity. Dionysian liberating lawlessness to oppose sterile rationalism and creativity, divine madness, metanoia as a form of ultimate salvation. This edition includes the maxi CD “Incandescent” and the “Live At Sonic Lodge” CD, both originally released in very small numbers only. Now available again in a remastered and polished form. A purging, extreme listening experience that’ll leave you feeling as though you’ve just gone over an abandoned area of sonic assaults and monstrous frequency manipulation. ‘Incadescent Sonic Lodge’ is resoundingly bleak and characterized by biting distortion rhythm, with noise-oscillators and disfigured vocal samples floundering around the mix at every turn. Or is the body that controls the mind? Nobody knows.

As a solo composer, San Francisco based, multi-instrumentalist Leila Abdul-Rauf stylistically diverges from her current and previous work in much heavier projects (Vastum, Ionophore, Hammers of Misfortune, Amber Asylum, Bastard Noise), and finds a home on Malignant side label, Antibody. Insomnia represents her first CD release following an LP on Saadi Saati in 2013, and a collaborative 7" with Tor Lundvall on Dais Records in 2014. Insomnia brings the spirit of these earlier releases to a new level of dynamic richness, with additional instrumentation and several guest contributions. Brass, piano and various other textures are delicately woven into filmic soundscapes that echo the sounds of memories faded through time. Solemn vignettes seem to emanate from an early morning dream state, the late autumnal tones and noir-ish melodies drifting through fog, evoking feelings of quiet isolation and solitude. Recalling haunting and desolate places, a private world is exposed, where time and space are distilled down to what remain of distant pasts and hidden emotions, melded into a symphony of ethereal melancholy. In 6 panel digipak with striking and complementary artwork by renowned artist Mark Thompson, Insomnia represents some of the most beautifully emotive and introspective work ever to grace the Malignant roster. Leila Abdul-Rauf - Phantasiai CD (Cyclic Law: 170thCycle)

4th full length opus from California's genius multi-instrumentalist Leila Abdul-Rauf. "Phantasiai", in Hellenistic philosophy, are our impressions, the ways in which the world is represented through our senses, preceding actual thoughts. This is where music-making lies; in the space between senses and thoughts, having the power to express where words fall short. This new album is comprised of two suites, each containing four movements, composed almost entirely from modulated live trumpet, glockenspiel, and vocal performance, an album which Leila believes to be the coldest and most sinister she's released under her name to date.
The first suite, “Distortions in Phantasy,” describes a character being seduced and consumed by a powerfully addictive phantasy, one so destructive, the body, mind and spirit are annihilated beyond recognition. As the album moves between tracks I through IV, listeners may experience a gradual sensation of sinking deeper into an abyss.
In the second suite, “The I Emerges,” the character experiences a renewal in which what little is left of the former self is vaporized through a crucible of sorts, then reorganized into a new physical and spiritual existence. The pain of the loss experienced by the former self is gone, but adjusting to the new self is an uncomfortable and disorienting experience, with reality perpetually coming into question."
Weaving layered textures into drifting cinematic compositions, Leila conjures dream-like ambient hymns while channeling ethereal melancholy.
